Personality & Traits

General Overview He is both diplomatic and at ease among a diverse group of people; his ready smile, ability to read a room, and open-minded attitude got the attention of his instructors at the Academy, but it was his analytical mind, that both excelled at putting together pieces, finding the patterns, as well as making intuitive leaps, that put him on the command track. He’s honest by nature, true to his word, and more than a little protective. Coming from an unusual family background, one that always brings up questions, has made him stronger and more determined.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:
• Comfortable in his own skin. Good at ‘reading the room’ and with body language. Capable of making intuitive leaps.
• Curious/Inquisitive/Investigative/Analytical Mindset. Picks up threads, puts together pieces, figures out patterns, uncovers what’s hidden. It’s what made him good in Intelligence and part of what helped him move up the ranks so quickly.
• Doesn’t hide and isn’t fearful. Rather, he’d be the kind to keep at something until the fear of it goes away. He wouldn’t be the kind to bow down to anyone and is very good at figuring out his opponents.
• Independent, self-reliant, strong willed and highly determined. When the mission is at stake, he understands that going head-to-head isn’t always the smartest solution. He can be devious but guaranteed, he’s not going to back down easily. He will find a way to get the job done.
• Highly adaptable with a strong survival instinct.
• Innate sense of fairness. Treat him fairly and with respect and you’ll get the same back.

Weaknesses:
• Not one to share personal problems. His grandfather, the crazy cultist brought the family a lot of unwanted media attention over the years, and it made him extremely reluctant to 'share' with anyone details of his life. Back when he was a teen, reporters would try to con him into divulging secrets. He doesn't fall for that anymore and really, it’s rare for him to let anyone in all the way – but he’s always happy to help with someone else’s issues/problems.
• Loves a good party. Has a large glass jar of colorful bead necklaces on a shelf in his quarters and attended every Mardi Gras during his time at the Academy.
• Stubborn. Hard for him to give up on something he thinks is important.
• Would rather be doing than sitting still talking about doing. Hard sometimes to let someone else do it while he stays behind.
Favorite Quotes Either you decide to stay in the shallow end of the pool or you go out in the ocean.
~ Christopher Reeve

If we were dropped out of a plane into the ocean and told the nearest land was a thousand miles away, I'd still swim. And I'd despise the one who gave up.
~ Abraham Maslow
Hobbies & Interests * Gymnast. The focus required to learn the routines, perfect the moves, gave him a goal to shoot for and a way to block out whatever was bothering him at the moment.
* Mixed Martial Arts. In part for self-defense, because he sometimes found himself in dangerous areas, and in part, for the discipline and the philosophy he's picked up along the way. He was good enough to do some amateur bouts back in the day but that all ended as his career in Starfleet got going.

Personal History 2340 - Born on Bennu Station
2350 - Moved to Utopia Colony, Mars

He spent the first ten years of his life as part of a cult though, to be fair, it wasn't exactly that at the start. Family and friends had decided to colonize a world together, but it didn't go as planned. Does anything? Bennu Station was the cobbled-together base of operations for the colonization effort but to Eagan, it was home. He knew its corridors and secret places, same as every other child on the station. Course, he wasn't exactly like every other child on the station. He and his brothers were Elijah Clearwater's grandsons and that set them apart.

That wasn't something he understood at the time, but he did, later on. When it all caught up to him.

At the age of ten, his parents, Eduard and Celine Clearwater, himself and his five brothers finally broke with the Clearwater family over philosophical issues. For a long while, Celine had been wanting to move the family to a colony world where the boys could run free but was held back by Eduard's devotion to his family. Ten years of whispered conversations and biting her tongue until things reached a point where even Eduard couldn't disagree.

His father, Elijah, had become less of a scientist building a world for his people and more of Bennu's prophet. There were the revelations, the pronouncements, delivered to the faithful after long, meditation sessions in which (supposedly) an ancient Egyptian deity told him what needed to happen. He and his father argued with increasing frequency -- because when did colonists become the faithful and he, their prophet? Eventually, Eduard had had enough. He took his family and moved to Utopia Colony on Mars where he used his not inconsiderable terraforming skills on behalf of the colony.

The idea was to just 'not talk about it' but that proved to be impossible. Elijah Clearwater, who wasn't shy about talking to the press, had made quite a name for himself and that news traveled which meant that the Clearwater boys, as they came to be known, were the subject of ridicule and mockery almost from day one. They learned quickly to present a united front in the schoolyard and after a few fights, their tormentors moved on to easier game. Privately, their opinions and beliefs varied widely with some wanting to return to Bennu Station, to see it through, while others, were happy away from it all. Eagan, the most like his father, was firmly in the latter camp; he wanted nothing to do with the idea of his grandfather as prophet. He continued his workouts, both gymnastic and Karate, and focused on schoolwork. The fractures took some time to heal.

For Eagan, through his classes on Federation history and cultures, astronomy, and science, he began to see what his own future might look like. And then, a recruiter came to the school to talk about careers in Starfleet and that settled things for him. He enlisted straight out of high school. During his first year, he was approached by Starfleet Intelligence and after that, he had a dual major -- Command and Intelligence.
